Terms of Service

Welcome to FileForge (“FileForge,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), accessible at https://fileforge.org. By accessing or using this website and its file conversion tools (the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Description of the Service

FileForge is a free, browser-based file conversion utility that allows users to convert files between supported formats.

Key characteristics of the Service:

  • No user accounts or registration
  • No file uploads to FileForge servers
  • File processing occurs entirely within your browser
  • Unlimited conversions, free of charge
  • Supported by advertising and optional donations

2. File Handling & Privacy Model

2.1 Client-Side Processing

All file conversions occur locally within your web browser. Your files are never transmitted, uploaded, or stored on FileForge servers.

2.2 Limited Anonymous Metrics

To display aggregate usage statistics on the FileForge homepage, the Service records non-identifying, non-content metadata only, including:

  • Number of files converted
  • File sizes
  • Conversion success or failure

This metadata:

  • Does not include file contents
  • Does not include filenames
  • Does not include personally identifiable information
  • Is stored in an in-memory database for statistical display only

3. Advertising & Analytics

FileForge is supported by third-party advertising and analytics services, including:

  • Google AdSense
  • PropellerAds
  • Vercel Analytics

These services may use cookies or similar technologies in accordance with their own privacy policies. FileForge does not control how these third parties collect or use data.

By using the Service, you acknowledge and agree that third-party providers may collect information as governed by their respective terms and privacy policies.

4. Donations

FileForge accepts optional donations via Buy Me a Coffee.

  • Donations are voluntary
  • Donations do not unlock features or remove ads
  • Donations are non-refundable
  • FileForge makes no guarantees in exchange for donations

5. Eligibility

There are no age restrictions for using FileForge. However, if you are using the Service on behalf of an organization or another individual, you represent that you have the authority to bind them to these Terms.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use FileForge for any unlawful, harmful, or abusive purposes, including but not limited to:

  • Converting or processing material you do not have the legal right to use
  • Violating copyright, intellectual property, or trade secret laws
  • Processing illegal, abusive, or exploitative material
  • Using the Service to create, modify, or distribute malware or malicious code
  • Attempting to interfere with, overload, or exploit the Service or its infrastructure

We reserve the right to block access to users who violate these Terms.

7. Intellectual Property

All website content, branding, design, logos, and software (excluding user-provided files) are the property of FileForge or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse engineer any part of the Service without prior written permission.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, FileForge expressly disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including but not limited to:

  • Fitness for a particular purpose
  • Fitness for a particular purpose
  • Merchantability
  • Accuracy or reliability of conversions
  • Non-infringement
  • Availability, uptime, or error-free operation

You use the Service entirely at your own risk.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FileForge shall not be liable for any damages, including but not limited to:

  • Data loss or corruption
  • Incorrect, incomplete, or failed conversions
  • Loss of business, revenue, or profits
  • Indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages

This applies even if FileForge has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless FileForge from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses arising from:

  • Your use of the Service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any applicable law or third-party rights

11. Service Availability & Changes

We reserve the right to:

  • Modify or discontinue any part of the Service at any time
  • Add, remove, or change supported file formats
  • Update these Terms at our discretion

Continued use of FileForge after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Connecticut, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
